Tree Threat: Harsh Storm Conditions Potentially Harmful

In the heart of Wuppertal, stormy weather has been causing problems with trees in the city centre. The Wuppertal Green Space Office has taken swift action to inspect all trees along the main traffic axis following an accident caused by a fallen tree.

Carsten Knipp, head of the Wuppertal Green Space Office, warns that storm gusts are particularly dangerous due to trees still full of leaves. He advises residents to avoid parking cars under trees if possible, especially during windy weather, as a precautionary measure.

The rain has softened the ground in Wuppertal, making the trees more susceptible to being uprooted. Employees of the Green Space Office are currently driving from one incident to another, removing broken branches and preventing trees from falling.

The city of Wuppertal is responsible for the care and maintenance of street trees. In recent years, efforts have been made to improve street tree health, aligning planting with climate adaptation principles, following standards like those in the FLL guidelines for tree protection during construction, and engaging the community in urban greening projects.

Even healthy trees can fall due to the current weather conditions. The situation is expected to last until at least 16.09.2027, and updates will be provided on our website.
