The Freedom Flotilla Coalition has confirmed that all 12 activists aboard the ship "Madleen," including climate activist Greta Thunberg, have been handed over to the Israeli authorities. They may be flying out of Tel Aviv tonight, as per online reports.

Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs had earlier announced that the "Selfie-Yacht" of the "Promis" had been anchored in Israel after being intercepted by the naval forces. The ship carried minimal aid supplies, which will now be delivered to the Gaza Strip via established aid channels, according to the Ministry. A video was released showing the activists donning orange life vests.

The "Freedom Flotilla" sailing ship had set sail from Sicily headed towards Gaza over a week ago. Its objective was to bypass the Israeli naval blockade and deliver aid to Gaza's population of over 2 million people. Thunberg, a frequent participant in pro-Palestinian protests, was also onboard.

Israeli forces have maintained a strict maritime blockade of the Gaza Strip, a territory controlled by the Islamist group Hamas, since 2007. This measure is officially supported by Egypt, bordering the coastal strip in the south, and is aimed at preventing weapons supplies to Hamas.

  • Greta Thunberg:
  • The activist faced detainment by Israeli forces and was deported to France, then Sweden on June 10, 2025.
  • During her detention, she referred to the situation as "chaotic and uncertain" but emphasized that the conditions were minimal compared to those in Gaza.
  • Deportation:
  • Thunberg and three other activists were deported from Israel, with the total number of activists on the "Madleen" being 12.
  • The activists had difficulties in contacting their lawyers during detention, stressing the importance of continued aid deliveries and challenges to the Israeli blockade.
  • Gaza Strip:
  • The mission was part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition's efforts to challenge Israel's blockade of Gaza and highlight the humanitarian crisis there.

Greta Thunberg, after being deported from Israel, is reportedly on her way home via Tel Aviv, following her detention and the interception of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition ship "Madleen" aimed at delivering aid to the Gaza Strip. This mission highlights the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region and challenges Israel's maritime blockade of the Gaza Strip, a territory controlled by Hamas.

The politics and general news surrounding Thunberg's involvement in the Freedom Flotilla Coalition mission have sparked debates over Israel's blockade strategy and the global community's responsibility towards the Gaza Strip's population.
