King Charles and Queen Camilla to Visit Vatican City for Historic First State Visit

King Charles and Queen Camilla are set to embark on a significant foreign tour next month, with their first stop being Vatican City. This will mark their first State Visit to Italy and the first foreign tour since the passing of Pope Francis.

The couple's itinerary for 2025, previously announced by Buckingham Palace, included a full schedule of foreign tours. Despite the monarch's ongoing cancer treatment, insiders have insisted that King Charles can carry out these tours.

King Charles last visited Vatican City in April of this year, where he had a private meeting with the late Pope Francis. During this meeting, the Pope reportedly gave his best wishes for Charles and Camilla's 20th wedding anniversary, which coincides with this upcoming visit.

The initial visit to Italy was planned as a State Visit but was changed to a four-day visit due to Pope Francis's health. With the passing of the Pope at the age of 88, the visit next month will mark King Charles and Queen Camilla's first foreign tour since his passing.

During this visit, King Charles will meet the new Pope, Leo XIV, also known as "Il Papa." This will be King Charles' second visit to Vatican City in 2025.

While no specific other person is explicitly mentioned to accompany the monarch on visits to Vatican City, King Charles is reported to travel to Italy and meet the Pope, implying he may accompany the monarch at such events.

The monarch is continuing his weekly treatment for cancer, but the visits to Vatican City are a testament to his determination to carry out his duties as king, including diplomatic engagements abroad.

This visit to Vatican City is highly anticipated, not only for its historical significance but also for the opportunity it provides for King Charles and Queen Camilla to strengthen relations with the Holy See.
