Title: Public Transport Chaos in Saxony-Anhalt: Verdi Demands Strike!

Hey there! Guess what? Verdi has called for a warning strike on public transport companies across most of Saxony-Anhalt. So if you're planning to travel in the Harz, Salzlandkreis, Börde, Jerichower Land, or Altmark regions, brace yourself for some significant disruptions on Friday. Some areas might even see complete bus suspensions!

Audio## What's the Reason for This Ruckus?

This ruckus stems from the unsuccessful first round of negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement. Verdi's union representatives are demanding higher wages—between 8% and 14%, depending on the length of service—and an additional monthly payment of 50 euros for union members. But, hold up! The employers' association isn't exactly feeling this. They have proposed annual increases of 2% to 2.3% over three years, with no special provisions for union members.

In some places, like the Salzlandkreis, they've decided to shut down their entire operations on Friday. What does this mean? No buses running on ANY of their lines. Not cool, right? And it's not just the Salzlandkreis—this applies to the Börde Bus Transport Company, Harz Transport Company, Halberstadt Transport Company, and transport companies in Burg, Genthin, Altmarkkreis Salzwedel, and Stendalbus GmbH.

So, What'll Happen Next?

Well, the show must go on. The next negotiation round is scheduled for June 10, 2025. Let's hope they can work things out to restore some normalcy to those public transport services!

Additional Topics:

  • New Ticket System: Public transport in the Harz region will soon become easier to use. Using your mobile phone or bank card will be all you'll need to hop on buses and trams from summer onwards. A test phase is in the works before the big rollout.
  • Rural Buses: Tired of trekking to the bus stop? Thanks to an innovative new service, starting soon, buses between Tangernhütte and Tangermünde will stop off request, right at your doorstep—if you reserve it in advance via app or phone!
  • Autonomous Shuttle Bus: Get ready for the future! A test autonomous shuttle bus is set to serve passengers in the Science Harbor Magdeburg, connecting various points. You can be part of the project by providing feedback during this real-world test!

Open Comments: Let us know what you think about the strike situation and the potential impact on services in Saxony-Anhalt!

  1. The strike announced by Verdi on public transport companies across Saxony-Anhalt, to be held on Friday, has its roots in the unsuccessful first round of negotiations over a new collective bargaining agreement in the policy-and-legislation sphere.
  2. The ongoing politics between Verdi and employers' association, concerning higher wages and additional payments for union members, might significantly affect the general-news category, as many public transport services across the regions of Harz, Salzlandkreis, Börde, Jerichower Land, and Altmark are likely to be disrupted.
