Transformers film series may continue production at Paramount
The Transformers franchise, known for its action-packed films and iconic characters, is set to make a comeback with multiple movies in production. Paramount Pictures, the studio behind the franchise, has several projects in development, possibly influenced by the recent Skydance merger.
Michael Bay, the director of the first five live-action Transformers movies, is reportedly returning to the franchise, potentially as a hands-on producer and director. Bay's return marks a significant development, as the franchise hasn't experienced similar financial highs since Bay exited as director after 2017's The Last Knight. Bay is working with writer Jordan VanDina on a script for one of the new films.
Josh Cooley, director of the animated Transformers One, is also involved in a new live-action Transformers film project. This seems to be separate from Bay's involvement and is described as a fresh live-action take.
In addition to these, there is a G.I. Joe / Transformers crossover movie in development, with the director yet to be specified. Furthermore, there are two other Transformers movie ideas in early development stages at the studio.
One of the Transformers movies is expected to be ready by 2029. However, plans for a Transformers cinematic universe were halted after The Last Knight underperformed, and no official confirmation has been made about the director for Transformers 8: Rise of Unicron, which is rumoured for a late 2025 or early 2026 release.
Paramount has discussed doing a sequel to 2023's Rise of the Beasts, indicating a continued interest in the Transformers franchise. The studio needs to have a Transformers movie in production by 2029 to maintain the rights to the intellectual property.
The interest of the audience in the upcoming Transformers movies is uncertain, but the franchise's return to the big screen promises an exciting revival of the beloved characters. Fans and moviegoers alike can look forward to the continuation of the Transformers saga in the coming years.
Io9 and Gizmodo report that the Transformers franchise is set for a return, with multiple movies in production at Paramount Pictures. Several projects are in development, including a movie that Michael Bay is working on with writer Jordan VanDina, as well as a separate live-action film directed by Josh Cooley. The franchise's future could also include a G.I. Joe/Transformers crossover movie, and two other Transformers movies are in early development stages. Although plans for a Transformers cinematic universe were halted after The Last Knight, the studio aims to keep the rights to the intellectual property by producing a Transformers movie by 2029. The future of the franchise is uncertain, but the upcoming movies promise an exciting revival of the beloved characters.
