New York-based Musician ShiShi Releases Spiritual and Emotional Journey Album 'Indigo'

On September 5, ShiShi, a New York-based musician, will be releasing his highly anticipated album titled Indigo. This album marks a departure from ShiShi's electronica roots, embracing rock, and promises to be a spiritual and emotional journey.

Indigo is not just a collection of songs, but a journey centered on themes of loss, desire, devotion, and the ultimate quest for unity with the divine. The album frames this journey as a "hero's journey," illustrating the transformation of a human being moving from profound loneliness and unfulfillment towards discovering a spiritual path and yearning for divine union.

ShiShi's global upbringing across China, Switzerland, and the US influences the sound of Indigo. His multicultural background enables a melding of cultural influences within the music, creating a transcendental process where melodies and sound choices emerge to serve the album’s spiritual message.

Vedic philosophy deeply influences the album, though not confined to a single practice. The overarching concept that all beings are interconnected (‘we are all one’) and that understanding this truth dissolves loneliness is central. This philosophy shapes the lyrical themes and emotional tone, while ShiShi's twice-daily meditation practice grounds the creation, enabling a blend of sound healing, rock, electronica, and devotional music that reflects his multifaceted spiritual and cultural identity.

The first track on Indigo is titled "Aham Brahmasmi," a concept from Vedic philosophy that signifies the recognition that the self and the divine are one. ShiShi's musical changes, not limited to Indigo, never feel risky but necessary to him. He says his shift into rock was driven by a desire to use his voice and be more authentic in his songwriting.

Three singles from Indigo have already been released: Dopamine Machine, Loser, and The Light That Wakes Me. ShiShi wanted to make a body of work that could be showcased and presented with a full live band. Additionally, he aims to make room for collaborative energy in Indigo that is hard to feel when DJing.

Indigo is set to be a transformative experience for listeners, using sound and spirituality to communicate a deeply personal and universal exploration.
