Ex-Manchester City athlete signs with FC Augsburg - Transfer of previous player from Kompany's team to FC Augsburg has been completed
Han-Noah Massengo, a 24-year-old midfielder, is set to embark on a new journey in his professional career, joining FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga. The French-born player, who was previously with Bristol City and Burnley in the English Championship and Premier League respectively, has signed a five-year contract with the German club, extending until June 30, 2030.
Massengo's career began at AS Monaco B before he moved to England, first to Bristol City in 2019 for an estimated fee of £6.9 million. His time at Bristol City was marked by potential, but he faced challenges in maintaining consistency. After three seasons, he left the club on a free transfer in 2023.
In the same year, Massengo joined Burnley, where he made nine appearances before being loaned out to AJ Auxerre in France for the second half of the season. At Auxerre, he featured 17 times in Ligue 1, gaining valuable experience in one of Europe's top leagues.
The move to FC Augsburg aims to help Massengo regain momentum in his career, offering a chance to play in a competitive league and revitalize his progress as a midfielder. FC Augsburg's CEO, Michael Ströll, expressed delight at the signing, calling Massengo a "highly interesting and dynamic midfielder."
Massengo's previous coaches include Vincent Kompany at FC Burnley and Chrislain Matsima at AS Monaco. Matsima, the French U21 national team captain, and Massengo played youth football together at AS Monaco.
Massengo has expressed his intention to give his best and earn a spot in the FC Augsburg team. He is excited about the opportunity to join a club with a rich history of player development and to play in the Bundesliga.
With Massengo's arrival, FC Augsburg now has several midfield options, including Kristijan Jakic, Arne Maier, Elvis Rexhbecaj, Tim Breithaupt (returning loanee), and Robin Fellhauer. The new addition provides another midfield option for new coach Sandro Wagner at FC Augsburg.
