Transfer interest from Manchester United and Newcastle United for RB Leipzig's star player, Benjamin Sesko, and his corresponding views on the potential moves

In the ongoing transfer saga surrounding RB Leipzig's striker Benjamin Sesko, the German club is currently reviewing bids from Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Newcastle United.

Newcastle United initiated the bidding with a club-record offer of around £65.5 million up front and £4.3 million in add-ons, an offer that was initially rejected by Leipzig. The Magpies then improved their offer to approximately £69.7 million (€80m) plus add-ons, a bid that is currently under consideration by Leipzig.

Manchester United, not to be outdone, have responded with similar or slightly higher bids. Their initial offer was around £74 million (€85m) including add-ons, and they have since improved their offer to about €80 million fixed fee plus add-ons worth €10 million.

Sesko, who has reached a full personal terms agreement with Manchester United, reportedly signing a contract until June 2030, has made it clear he prefers a move to Old Trafford over St. James' Park. However, Leipzig seems determined to negotiate for maximum value, even if both clubs offer the same amount.

Leipzig is believed to be looking to increase the size of add-ons and the sell-on percentage, in an attempt to secure the best possible deal for the young striker. Despite Newcastle having a bid accepted by Leipzig, Sesko's omission from the club's friendly squad against Atalanta indicates that a move is imminent.

Interestingly, Liverpool have not been reported to have officially bid or to be active front-runners in this current negotiation phase. Sesko, who has been linked with a move to the Merseyside club in the past, may yet enter the race for his signature.

As the transfer deadline approaches, the race for Sesko's signature is heating up, with Manchester United and Newcastle United vying for the young striker's services. Leipzig, for their part, are hopeful of a bidding war between the two clubs, ensuring they get the best possible deal for their star player.

This update comes primarily from ESPN, TeamTalk, Sky Sports, and Sports Illustrated reports from August 5-6, 2025.

Benjamin Sesko's preference for Manchester United is apparent, as he has reportedly signed a contract until June 2030 with the Premier League club. However, European leagues are not irrelevant, as Leipzig, Sesko's current club, is keen on securing a stipulation that includes a portion of any future transfer fee, potentially from European-league clubs such as the Premier League's Newcastle United and Manchester United.
