Transfer: Goalkeeper Hermansen joins West Ham from Leicester City

West Ham United have bolstered their goalkeeping ranks with the signing of Mads Hermansen from Leicester City for a fee of £20m. The Danish shot-stopper has put pen to paper on a five-year contract, securing his place at the London Stadium until 2030.

Hermansen, who expressed his ambition to contribute positively to West Ham, feels that the club is a good fit for his playing style. The 28-year-old was unable to help Leicester City survive in the Premier League last season, but he did manage to finish the 2022-2023 campaign with a save percentage of 63.3%, a statistic that ranked him above several Premier League goalkeepers, including Alex Palmer, Jose Sa, Bart Verbruggen, and himself when he was at Leicester.

Despite not playing in the Premier League during the 2022-2023 season, Hermansen helped Leicester City win the Championship in the 2023-2024 season, securing their return to England's top flight. His Premier League debut season with West Ham will be the 2024-2025 campaign.

In his two seasons with Leicester, Hermansen made 27 Premier League appearances, keeping just one clean sheet and participating in three victories. West Ham were looking for a new goalkeeper after Lukasz Fabianski left as a free agent, and it seems they have found their man in Hermansen.

Alphonse Areola and Wes Foderingham remain the senior goalkeepers at West Ham, but with Hermansen's arrival, competition for the number one spot is set to heat up. The Dane, who expressed his happiness about joining West Ham, could make his debut at Sunderland in next week's season opener.

Mads Hermansen was presented to the London Stadium crowd ahead of Saturday's friendly versus Lille. Speaking to the press, he stated that it felt natural to join West Ham and that the decision was easy for him. He expressed his ambition to help West Ham achieve success and contribute to a positive team spirit.
