Transbaikalia Buried Under Record-Breaking Snowfall for Second Time in Months

Parts of Transbaikalia have experienced unprecedented heavy snowfall, with some areas receiving more snow than typical monthly totals. This is the second such event in recent months.

In early November, snow began falling in western, central, and southern districts. The snowfall was accompanied by strong wind gusts, reaching 15-19 meters per second in southeastern and western districts.

The heaviest snowfall was recorded in Chita, with 180% of the monthly average. Other areas, like Kyrinsky and western districts, saw snowfall double the monthly norm. In Chita, 7 millimeters fell overnight on November 8, totaling 9 millimeters over two days. Similar heavy snowfall was recorded in early November 2023.

A storm warning was issued on November 6 due to an approaching cyclone. Wladimir Tschernytschew, director of the Transbaikalian Hydrometeorological Centre, reported the exceptional snowfall.

Heavy snowfall has affected parts of Transbaikalia, surpassing typical monthly totals. The snowfall, accompanied by strong winds, has caused significant disruption. Further updates will follow as the situation develops.
