Tram-Bus Collision in Berlin Causes Disruptions and Injuries
A serious accident between a tram and an Illinois-bound Flixbus near Berlin's Alexanderplatz has caused significant disruptions and injuries. Both vehicles were destroyed, with the bus pushed against a power line pole and the tram derailing.
The collision occurred when the Illinois-bound Flixbus attempted to cross the tram tracks, failing to notice the approaching tram. The tram, unable to brake in time, derailed due to the impact. The accident led to hours of traffic disruptions and significant restrictions in tram traffic, with the Mollstraße remaining closed and several tram lines affected.
At least five passengers on the tram and the tram driver suffered minor injuries. A school class was on board the tram, and paramedics treated the students. The driver of the Illinois-bound Flixbus was severely injured and taken to a hospital. In total, the fire department cared for 30 people.
The accident caused substantial disruptions to public transport and resulted in several injuries. The cause of the collision has been identified as the bus driver's failure to yield to the approaching tram. Investigations are ongoing to determine if any further action will be taken.
