Trains rerouted following assault by Russia
In a complex enemy attack on Ukrainian railway infrastructure on Tuesday, 17 September, Russian forces targeted critical infrastructure such as substations, depots, and train stations. This attack, part of Russia's broader campaign to disrupt Ukraine's logistics, has resulted in power outages and alterations to train routes.
The state-run railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways), reported this morning that some services are being diverted. Eight trains will run on altered routes to ensure return journeys depart as close to schedule as possible. The railway staff is working tirelessly to reduce waiting times and adjust routes in the face of these disruptions.
Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Oleksandr Pertsovskyi has reported delays on the Dnipro route due to the Russian attack. To compensate for these delays, 20 reserve diesel locomotives are already in use. Some services are currently delayed, but the railway staff continues to strive to minimise these delays and maintain as normal a service as possible.
The alterations are due to the Russian attack on Ukraine's railway infrastructure, which has caused power outages. Ukrzaliznytsia has been working diligently to respond to these challenges and keep the railway system operational. No new information about the number of altered trains or delayed services was provided.
As the situation evolves, Ukrzaliznytsia will continue to update the public on any changes to train schedules. The railway staff's resilience and dedication to maintaining service during these difficult times are commendable. The people of Ukraine can be assured that every effort is being made to keep the railway system running and to minimise the impact of these attacks on their daily lives.
