Werder's hunt for a new coach is underway following Ole Werner's departure, and Horst Steffen is gaining more attention as a potential candidate, as suggested by recent reports.

Training will be undertaken by Steffen in Bremen as per his declaration.

SV Werder Bremen is on the brink of announcing Horst Steffen as their new head coach, following the departure of Ole Werner. According to a "Bild" report, negotiations with Steffen, currently bound to second division side SV Elversberg until 2026, are progressing positively. The erstwhile pro is expected to be unveiled at the Weser on Thursday, pending final discussions.

The decision to part ways with Werner, who was in charge for three and a half years, stems from his refusal to extend his contract, which expires in June 2026.

Steffen's potential arrival at the Hanseatic club, however, might not have been met with such enthusiasm by former contender Lukas Kwasniok. Per reports, Bremen has rejected Kwasniok, who left SC Paderborn this spring after four years and has been linked to several clubs. Kwasniok, evidently, has not yet commented on his future plans following Elversberg's narrow miss at promotion to the top flight.

As for Steffen, the club is reportedly set to pay a compensation of around 350,000 euros to secure his services, according to enrichment data. Steffen's contract with Werder Bremen is believed to run until the summer of 2028. Managing director Clemens Fritz has showed confidence in the coach's knowledge, leadership, and penchant for an attacking style of play. Steffen, for his part, appears eager to tackle the challenge and continue the development of Werder Bremen's current Bundesliga squad.

Horst Steffen's anticipated move to SV Werder Bremen could potentialize a shift in excitement amid European football leagues, given his impending arrival and the club's belief in his attacking style of play. To secure Steffen's services, Werder Bremen is expected to pay a compensation of around 350,000 euros, as per reports, and his contract is believed to span until the summer of 2028.
