Rookie Kicker Tyler Loop Shines in Ravens' Debut at M&T Bank Stadium

At the Baltimore Ravens' first practice at their home ground, M&T Bank Stadium, rookie kicker Tyler Loop made a significant impression. The sixth-round pick from Arizona, who became the first kicker ever drafted by the Ravens, delivered a flawless performance that left coaches and fans in awe.

Loop, who set a school record with a 62-yard field goal in 2024, went 7-for-7 during training camp drills. He showcased his power with a spectacular 60-yard kick and tied the game with a 56-yard field goal during practice, hitting the uprights with room to spare.

The Ravens parted ways with veteran kicker Justin Tucker, who was accused of sexual misconduct by 16 massage therapists. Loop's arrival came just days before Tucker's departure. Head coach John Harbaugh praised Loop's performance, stating that he "passed that test with flying colors."

Despite some recent inconsistency in training camp, Loop's demonstration of power and skill has generated excitement about his potential to be the Ravens' new long-term kicker. His confident demeanor, exemplified by his celebratory finger twirl after the 60-yard field goal, has added to the anticipation.

Meanwhile, the Ravens' defense was equally impressive. Nnamdi Madubuike and Travis Jones led a stout defensive line, making it difficult for opposing players to find space. Jaire Alexander had a strong practice, making two impressive plays in one-on-one drills, while Kyle Hamilton had a highlight-reel play, twisting and turning to break up a pass from Lamar Jackson.

Offensively, Lamar Jackson demonstrated his athleticism and smarts as a runner by escaping pressure and getting a first down in a team drill. Derrick Henry scored a touchdown during 11-on-11 drills, finishing off a pass from Jackson on a wheel route. Keaton Mitchell took a short pass for a touchdown and spun out of a tackle in a later 11-on-11 situation.

Malaki Starks, a first-round rookie DB, made notable plays in both 11-on-11 settings and one-on-one drills, smothering wide receiver Dayton Wade and stringing out a Henry run. Xavier Guillory, an undrafted rookie free agent, had a standout performance, beating Nate Wiggins deep for a touchdown and making multiple impressive catches.

Malik Cunningham also had good reps during practice, and Marlon Humphrey sacked Lamar Jackson on a corner blitz, which could have been undesirable given the time left and the score.

As the Ravens prepare for the upcoming season, Loop's performance has solidified his position as a key figure in the team's special teams. The final decision on the kicking job is expected after preseason games.
