Thomas Müller Joins Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer

In a significant move for Major League Soccer (MLS) and Canadian soccer, Thomas Müller has announced his intention to join the Vancouver Whitecaps, as hinted in a farewell video over the weekend.

The German football star, who has spent over a decade at FC Bayern Munich, is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Whitecaps, with the deal currently being finalized. The transfer comes after Müller became a free agent following his long and successful career at Bayern, during which he played 756 matches, scored 250 goals, and helped win multiple Bundesliga and Champions League titles.

The Whitecaps see Müller as a star signing to strengthen their competitive window in the next 18 months and boost the profile of Canadian soccer and MLS. The club obtained Müller's discovery rights from FC Cincinnati through an agreement involving around $400,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM). Müller is not expected to be a Designated Player (DP) in the 2025 season but will likely become one in 2026.

Müller's training sessions at FC Bayern Munich's Säbener Straße are no longer relevant to this new development, as he has been granted permission to train on the club's training ground in Munich. Recent reports suggest that he has been keeping fit at Bayern ahead of his move to North America.

The move to MLS marks one of the biggest transfers in the club's history and is being widely reported by newspapers such as the Vancouver Sun and The Province. Müller, a Football World Cup winner, is set to join Vancouver Whitecaps in 2025.

In a recent solo training session, Müller completed passing and coordination exercises with Bayern's rehab coach, Simon Martinello. The session, which lasted approximately 45 minutes, was reported by German newspaper Bild.

As Müller prepares for his new adventure in North America, fans and pundits alike are excited about the prospect of seeing the German international in action for the Whitecaps. The signing is undoubtedly a major statement for the club and MLS, and it will be interesting to see how Müller performs in the MLS and how this move impacts the league as a whole.
