National Team Gears Up for Home Euros in Thuringia: Nagelsmann Sets Sight on Success

As the European Championship looms on the horizon, the German national soccer team embarks on their preparations south of Weimar. The German Football Association (DFB) announced on Friday that Julian Nagelsmann and his tournament squad will reside at the Spa- und GolfResort Weimarer Land in Blankenhain from May 26 to 31. Notably, this same hotel will serve as the base camp for the England national team, led by Bayern Munich's Harry Kane, during the European Championships.

Training on the resort's newly constructed pitches will be the order of business for the German squad during their stay. Once they've wrapped up in Thuringia, the team will move on to their European Championship quarters in Herzogenaurach, with test matches scheduled to take place between June 2 and 7. However, the specific venues and opponents have yet to be determined. An originally planned international match in Eastern Germany, such as in Dresden, will not materialize.

"We will find perfect conditions in Weimarer Land to prepare for the monumental task of the European Championship at home," said Nagelsmann. "We need a special team spirit to go as far as possible in the tournament," he added.

Rudi Völler, the DFB sports director, highlighted the importance of preparing domestically instead of abroad, positioning the tournament as an opportunity to unite the entire nation. "The European Championship should not only take place at the ten EURO venues, but throughout Germany," he stated. "We deliberately choose to take the national team to the east of Germany before moving into our quarters in the south of the country, eager to experience the support of our fans in Thuringia" said Völler.

Julian Nagelsmann's international year commences with test matches on March 23 in Lyon, facing France, and on March 26 against the Netherlands in Frankfurt. Germany's group opponents in the European Championship include Scotland on June 14 in Munich, Hungary on June 19 in Stuttgart, and Switzerland on June 23 in Frankfurt.

Additional Insights

It's essential to recognize that the English national squad's preparation for the European Championships is not directly related to the German national team's training in Thuringia. Rather, their respective preparations serve distinct purposes. The English team is focused on securing top-tier players and honing their strategy for the upcoming tournament and Euro 2025, where they will be competing against teams like France, the Netherlands, and Wales in Group D[1].

Meanwhile, the German team’s training is part of a larger youth development strategy emphasizing decentralized training, professional collaboration, and holistic development of athletic performance[2]. The methods focus on physical fitness enhancement and match-scenario testing to evaluate players' tactical performance, creativity, and game intelligence.
