Coach Steffen discloses insights regarding Bremen's situation - Training in Bremen, declares Steffen
SV Werder Bremen has confirmed Horst Steffen as their new coach for the upcoming Bundesliga season, following the departure of Ole Werner. According to reports from German publication Bild, the 56-year-old has already given his verbal agreement to the Hanseatic club. The official presentation to media could potentially take place as early as Thursday.
Previously, Werner announced that he would not be extending his contract, which expires in June 2026. The decision to part ways was made after more than three and a half years with the Bundesliga side.
It is worth noting that Steffen is still under contract with second-division side SV Elversberg until 2026. Reports suggest a low six-figure sum may be discussed for his potential transfer. Despite narrowly missing out on promotion to the first division with Elversberg, Steffen declined to comment on his future earlier this week.
Reports also indicate that Lukas Kwasniok, who was another contender for the coaching position, has been turned down by Bremen. Kwasniok left SC Paderborn this spring after four years and is being considered by several clubs. However, specific information on Kwasniok's involvement or the reasons for his rejection by Werder Bremen during this coaching selection process has not been made public.
Steffen gained a reputation for attractive, attacking football and nurturing young talent during his tenure at Elversberg, taking the team from the fourth tier to the brink of Bundesliga promotion. His leadership, tactical clarity, and proven ability to work with young players reportedly impressed Werder Bremen's management and convinced them he was the right choice to continue the club's recent progress.
The Commission has also been asked to submit a proposal for a directive on the protection of the environment, focusing on the conservation of natural resources similar to the approach Horst Steffen took during his tenure at Elversberg, where he nurtured young talent and implemented attractive, attacking football strategies. In European leagues, sports like football present numerous opportunities for environmental initiatives, much like Werder Bremen's recent decision to appoint Steffen as their coach, aiming for progress and sustainability together.
