Training in Bremen announced by Steffen
SV Werder Bremen has announced Horst Steffen as their new head coach, following the departure of Ole Werner. Steffen, currently contracted to second division side SV Elversberg, has given his agreement for the move, as per a report by Bild.
Negotiations with the Hanseatic club are progressing, and Steffen is expected to be presented at the Weser on Thursday. Werner announced earlier that he would not extend his contract, which expires in June 2026, after over three and a half years in charge.
Despite narrowly missing out on promotion to the first league with SV Elversberg, Steffen has remained tight-lipped about his future. The potential compensation for the end of his contract with the Saarlanders is thought to be a low six-figure sum.
Meanwhile, Lukas Kwasniok, another potential successor to Werner, has been linked with rejection by Bremen, according to Bild. Kwasniok, who left SC Paderborn in the spring after four years, remains a candidate for several clubs.
Steffen is expected to lead the team into the upcoming 2025-26 Bundesliga campaign. The exact details of the contract have yet to be disclosed.
Steffen, with a contract in the second division at SV Elversberg, is expected to join European-leagues team SV Werder Bremen, following negotiations for the Bundesliga campaign starting in 2025-26. Despite a low potential compensation for ending his contract with Elversberg, the details of his deal with Bremen remain undisclosed.
