SV Werder Bremen Taps Horst Steffen as New Head Coach

Bremen - Reports suggest that former professional footballer Horst Steffen has agreed to take over as the new head coach for Bundesliga side SV Werder Bremen. According to German publication "Bild", the 56-year-old strategist is set to be presented to the club's fanbase at the Weser Stadium on Thursday.

After previously announcing his intent not to renew his contract, which expires in June 2026, Ole Werner has departed the Bremen team.

Steffen is still under contract with second division side SV Elversberg until 2026. It is rumored that a low six-figure fee may be required to release him from his current obligations. Following narrowly missing out on promotion to the first division with Elversberg, Steffen remained tight-lipped about his future when asked on Monday evening.

Lukas Kwasniok, a potential successor to Werner, has allegedly been turned down by Bremen, as per "Bild". Kwasniok left second division side SC Paderborn this spring after a four-year tenure and has attracted interest from various clubs due to his coaching expertise.
