SV Werder Bremen Taps Horst Steffen as new Coach
Bremen - SV Werder Bremen is expected to announce Horst Steffen as its new head coach, following the departure of Ole Werner. According to a report by Bild, the 56-year-old has already given his commitment to the Hanseatic club, with a potential presentation set for this Thursday.
The Bremen team parted ways with Werner after more than three and a half years of service. Werner announced he would not extend his contract, which expires in June 2026.
Steffen is currently under contract with second division club SV Elversberg until 2026. The club could reportedly receive a lower six-figure transfer fee to release Steffen from his contract. Elversberg previously came close to promotion to the top league but missed out on promotion after losing the play-off against 1. FC Heidenheim. Steffen declined to comment on his future after the play-off loss on Monday evening.
Lukas Kwasniok, another potential candidate for the vacant position, was reportedly rejected by Bremen, according to Bild. Kwasniok left second division club SC Paderborn in the spring following a four-year tenure and is currently in demand at several clubs.
