Training commencement delayed due to absence of a trio linked to goalkeeper Rönnow
Union Berlin are set to begin their new Bundesliga season without three key professionals, as coach Steffen Baumgart cited a training deficit as the reason for Diogo Leite's absence in the DFB-Pokals game against FC Gütersloh.
Leite was not the only player missing from Union Berlin's training session before their match against VfB Stuttgart. Starting goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow was also absent due to feeling unwell, and no specific reason was given for his illness or his absence from training on Tuesday. Rönnow was substituted at halftime in the DFB-Pokal game against FC Gütersloh on Friday.
Lucas Tousart was also missing from Union Berlin's training on Tuesday, and no further information about his absence was provided. It is unclear whether Tousart will be available for the match against Stuttgart.
Despite these setbacks, Union Berlin are optimistic that Rönnow will be fit to play against VfB Stuttgart on matchday 1. Defenders Josip Juranovic, Oluwaseun Ogbemudia, and Stanley Nsoki participated in part of Union Berlin's training session, but are not yet an option for the game against Stuttgart.
Union Berlin will be hoping to turn things around quickly, as they host VfB Stuttgart at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on August 20 at 3:15 PM. The match will be broadcast on Sky.
Striker Dmytro Bogdanov, recently signed from Dynamo Dresden, made his public training debut with Union Berlin. Bogdanov could potentially make his debut for the club in the opening match of the new season.
Leite's absence from training is concerning for Union Berlin, as he was seen only as a spectator at training, wearing flip-flops, and was not participating due to an undisclosed injury. The club manager Steffen Baumgart confirmed that Leite was out for the Stuttgart match because of an undisclosed injury.
It remains to be seen how Union Berlin will fare without three key professionals for their opening match of the new Bundesliga season. Fans will be hoping for a strong performance from the team, as they look to build on their success from last season.
