FC Hansa Rostock wrapped up their third league season in a rollercoaster of emotions, clinching a 1:2 defeat against relegated Hannover 96 II at the Heinz von Heiden Arena. Though the loss missed a potential playoff spot, the fans' applause was a testament to head coach Daniel Brinkmann's resilience.

"The scenes with the fans at the end were just as similar and as beautiful for us," Brinkmann shared, reflecting on the emotional match day.

Moving On: Aiming for DFB-Pokal Glory

With the playoff hopes dashed and missing out on fourth place, Brinkmann found himself torn between feelings of disappointment and pride. "We need a brief moment to put this season behind us," he mused, with the initial target of a third-place finish falling short. A top-four position would have granted the club a direct entry into the DFB-Pokal 2025/26. That loss is a hard pill to swallow, but they aren't out of the race yet.

A victory in the state cup final against SV Pastow next Saturday (2:30 PM) could secure their DFB-Pokal 2025/26 entry. "Participating in the DFB-Pokal holds immense importance, regardless of the emotional aspect," Brinkmann emphasized, promising hard work and preparation.

Looking Back with Pride

Despite the fifth-place finish, Brinkmann acknowledges that success has been achieved. "We've moved something in the last months," he said, reflecting on the team's journey from a relegation spot to a playoff contender. The coach's arrival in November marked a turning point, with the team recording 14 wins, two draws, and nine losses in 25 matches since then. However, the recent defeats against Energie Cottbus (1:3) and Hannover have squandered the playoff chances, a development that was considered improbable a few months ago.

Building a Lasting Legacy

The team now aims to build upon this progress, with an eye on a return to the 2. Bundesliga. "We are a club that can and wants to compete at the highest level," Brinkmann stated confidently. FC Hansa Rostock boasts a solid fan base and a promising stadium, setting the perfect foundation for the team's upcoming campaigns.

Avoiding Upheaval

Off the pitch, the team's management faces challenges as well. Reports suggest that the supervisory board intends to discuss managing director Jürgen Wehlend regarding cost management concerns.

The Commission might consider submitting a proposal for a directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation, a subject relevant to the demands placed on Brinkmann and his team during their football games, given their proximity to the field. On a lighter note, despite the impending DFB-Pokal absence, FC Hansa Rostock could potentially secure their entry into the 2025/26 competition by defeating SV Pastow in the state cup final.
