Train skills in Neubrandenburg break records and achieve triumphs
Emilia Waterstradt, the talented German cyclist, recently concluded her U19 career on a high note, winning the sprint event at the International Sprint Cup in Cottbus. This victory marked the end of a successful U19 career for the young athlete.
Waterstradt, who began her cycling journey at PSV 90 Neubrandenburg, joined RSC Cottbus around four years ago. Her journey with the club has been marked by numerous achievements, including setting a new world record over the 1000-meter distance at a talent scouting camp in Frankfurt/Oder at the start of the season.
The past year has seen Waterstradt mature significantly, both athletically and mentally. This maturity was evident in her performance at the German Championships in Dudenhofen, where she won four gold medals at the start of the season. However, the Keirin event the day before saw a close call, with Waterstradt finishing second, just missing out on victory at the finish line.
Despite this minor setback, Waterstradt's most successful year was last year, she stated. This success was, unfortunately, followed by a difficult period after the 2024 European Championships. The German team was unable to participate in the World Championships due to high costs, a situation that weighed heavily on Waterstradt.
Despite these challenges, Waterstradt's fighting spirit remained undeterred. National coach Maximilian Levy praised her performance, calling it "fantastic" and commending her resilience.
Waterstradt expressed some disappointment about not being able to fight for medals in the competition, but she finished fifth in her favorite discipline, the sprint, after being eliminated in the quarterfinals.
Now, Waterstradt is preparing for the leap to the U23 category. She aims to make a statement and arrive first in her new category. Waterstradt's victory in the sprint event at the International Sprint Cup in Cottbus was a perfect farewell from the U19 category, as she also won the overall title in the 2025 track cycling junior league.
In addition to her cycling career, Waterstradt is currently undergoing police training in Kienbaum. She will return to normal training in Cottbus after the first multi-month course.
Waterstradt's cycling career began with a difficult time, as she once considered quitting due to a lack of success. However, her determination and hard work have paid off, and she is now poised for even greater success in the U23 category.
