Paul Mitchell, a talented trumpeter, vocalist, and percussionist, has officially joined the progressive rock band Big Big Train as a full-time member. This exciting news was announced in July 2025, following his successful live performances with the band since 2024.

Mitchell made his debut with Big Big Train at the prestigious Night Of The Prog festival in Germany and has since performed over 30 live shows with the band. His contributions to the band's unique sound and energy have been well-received, leading to his official induction as a full member.

The band's founder and bassist, Greg Spawton, praised Mitchell's trumpet playing, versatility, and understanding of the band's ethos. Spawton highlighted that Paul has been a great musical and personal fit for the group.

Mitchell himself expressed his excitement about joining Big Big Train full-time and about the collaborative new music they are creating together. He appreciates the unique energy and musicality of each Big Big Train member, and enjoys touring and performing with the band.

In addition to his role in the upcoming studio album, Paul Mitchell will feature on Big Big Train's upcoming live release titled Are We Nearly There Yet? The band will perform a special UK warm-up show ahead of next year's Cruise To The Edge appearance, with the show taking place at Southampton's The 1865 venue on Sunday 1 March. This will be their only UK show until Autumn 2026.

Big Big Train will make their third successive appearance on the Cruise To The Edge between March 4 and 9. This will mark another exciting chapter in the band's journey, with Paul Mitchell's distinctive sound adding a new dimension to their music.
