News Article: Collision Involving Train and Two Semi-Trucks Occurs Near Dufrost, Manitoba

On Wednesday morning, August 13, 2025, a significant incident unfolded on Highway 23 at Road 18 East, near Dufrost in the RM of DeSalaberry, Manitoba. The collision involved two semi-trucks and a train, with heavy fog conditions identified as a contributing factor by the RCMP.

The sequence of events began with the first semi-truck, driven by a 57-year-old man from the RM of Montcalm, failing to stop at a train crossing on time due to the heavy fog. In an attempt to avoid a crash, the driver swerved into the ditch. Despite precautionary measures, the driver was taken to the hospital.

Unfortunately, the second semi-truck, hauling gravel and driven by a 53-year-old man from Winnipeg, collided with the rear of the moving train. Remarkably, the second driver was not injured, despite the truck catching fire.

The train continued on its route following the collision. However, a portion of Highway 23 remains closed due to debris and damage to the roadway. The St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP detachment, along with CP police, is currently investigating the incident.

The heavy fog that enveloped the area at the time of the collision is believed to have significantly reduced visibility and made it difficult for drivers to react in time. The investigation will aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
