A road bridge collapse led to a grisly derailment, claimed the lives of seven individuals, as per a late-night Telegram post by regional governor, Alexander Bogomaz. Nearly 70 others, including three minors, were reported to be injured.

The railway company pointed fingers at an "illegal interference with traffic" as the probable cause of the disaster. On state television, Bogomaz confirmed rumors of an early morning explosion. "An explosion of the bridge on the route during the passage of the Moscow-Klimovo passenger train occured, which had 388 passengers," he stated, describing the incident's location as about 80 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

In the adjoining Kursk region, another cargo train derailed due to a bridge collapse. According to regional governor, Alexander Chinshtein's Telegram report, part of the train fell onto a highway under the bridge, and the locomotive ignited. The driver initially reported to be injured. The reasons behind the bridge collapse remain undisclosed.

With Ukraine defending itself against a Russian invasion for over three years, acts of sabotage and attacks on Russian territory by Ukrainian intelligence services seem like an ongoing norm.
