Fire Brigade Training Day in Düren: A Successful Collaborative Exercise

The volunteer fire brigade unit 4 of Mechernich, Germany, recently participated in an intensive training session on July 26, 2025, at the training ground of the fire brigade institute in Düren. A total of 32 participants from units Eiserfey, Harzheim, Lorbach, Vussem, and Weyer attended the training.

The training day, which lasted approximately eight hours, focused on cooperation, communication, and coordination between the individual units of the fire brigade. Zugführer Achim Nießen, the commander of the volunteer fire brigade Mechernich, stated that the IdF training area offers excellent opportunities for practicing under almost real conditions.

The training scenarios included firefighting, rescuing people from buildings, and providing technical assistance in traffic accidents with trapped persons. After each training scenario, a review was held with all participants and the leading forces to highlight strengths and identify improvement potential.

In case of an alarm involving the entire fire brigade 4, communication and coordination are crucial for the leading forces at the scene of the incident. The training day was considered extremely important for the fire brigade's ability to act safely and effectively in emergencies.

The fire brigade institute NRW, located in Münster, operates an open-air training area in Düren-Stockheim. The training area includes training houses built from containers, various training possibilities, and a training hall.

All participants agreed in the final feedback that a unit training at this level with the training possibilities in Düren should be repeated and ideally established in the annual training calendar. The city of Mechernich's fire brigade unit 4 plans to make this a regular event in their training schedule.
