Tragically, Liana met her end in Friedland.
In the quiet town of Heilbad Heiligenstadt, northwestern Thuringia, a heart-wrenching farewell ceremony was held for Liana, a 16-year-old girl who lost her life in an unfortunate incident.
Liana, a refugee from Ukraine, had been living in Thuringian Geisleden with her family before the tragic event that took place at Friedland station on August 11. Initial investigations suggested it was an accident, but further DNA traces found on Liana's shoulder led the police to suspect a 31-year-old Iraqi man.
The suspect, who had a previous diagnosis of paranoid schizophrenia, showed psychological abnormalities on the day of the crime. Despite this, he had been placed in a psychiatric clinic under a detention order, a fact that was not made public until later.
The freight train, travelling at approximately 100 km/h, was the instrument of Liana's demise. The suspect is alleged to have intentionally pushed her against the moving train.
The ceremony, led by a Ukrainian Orthodox priest, was attended by approximately 150 people, including family, friends, and Thuringia's AfD leader Björn Höcke. The sombre gathering served as a poignant reminder of the senseless loss of a young life.
The incident, which caused nationwide headlines in Germany, has left the community in shock and mourning. However, the search for answers continues, with the psychiatric expert who diagnosed the suspect's mental disorders related to the incident at Friedland station in August 2022 yet to be identified.
Our thoughts are with Liana's family and friends during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.
