Tragically, Baylor defensive lineman Alex Foster, aged 18, passed away.

UPDATE: Baylor University football player Alex Foster has passed away at the age of 18, according to a statement released by the school on Wednesday. Officials did not provide details regarding the cause of death for the redshirt freshman who saw action in spring practices after redshirting the previous season.

Coach Dave Aranda and athletic director Mack Rhoades issued a joint statement expressing their condolences and offering support to Foster's family and teammates. "We are heartbroken by the unexpected loss of Alex Foster, a beloved member of our football family," the statement read. "Our immediate focus is on supporting Alex's family and his teammates through this devastating loss."

Aranda later shared a separate post on social media noting the long-lasting impact Foster had on those who knew him during his time at the school. Detroit Free Press reports that police are investigating the case, but no further details have been released.

Foster was a highly-rated prospect when he signed with Baylor in 2024, coming out of St. Joseph High School in Madison, Mississippi, where he was considered one of the top 20 prospects in the state. He was also highly sought after by other top schools, including Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, and Texas, but ultimately chose the Bears.

In the wake of Foster's death, the city of Greenville has declared a state of emergency and implemented a nightly curfew in response to concerns about juvenile safety and parental accountability, according to WLBT. Law enforcement has not released any details about the ongoing investigation into Foster's death.
