Former World Cup Winner Frank Mill Passes Away at 67

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Frank Mill, a legendary German footballer and a member of West Germany's 1990 FIFA World Cup-winning squad. Mill, who was born on July 23, 1958, passed away on August 5, 2025, at the age of 67[1][2][5].

Throughout his illustrious career, Mill played as a striker and made a significant impact in the Bundesliga. He represented Borussia Dortmund, Fortuna Düsseldorf, and Rot-Weiss Essen, among other clubs. Mill's skill and talent earned him a place among the most skilful Bundesliga forwards, and he was the proud winner of the German Cup (DFB-Pokal) with Borussia Dortmund in 1989[1][2][5].

In addition to his club success, Mill also represented West Germany on the international stage, earning 17 caps for the national team. He was a part of the 1990 World Cup squad coached by Franz Beckenbauer, although he did not play in any matches during the tournament, as he was behind other prominent forwards such as Rudi Völler and Jürgen Klinsmann in the selection order[1][2][3]. Mill also won a bronze medal at the 1988 Seoul Olympics as captain of the West German team and participated in the 1984 Olympics and UEFA Euro 1988.

Tragically, Mill passed away due to complications following a serious heart attack he suffered in May 2025 during a taxi ride in Milan. His former clubs and football officials remembered him as a legend and ambassador of the sport in Germany[1][2][4][5].

The news of Mill's passing was first reported by "Bild", and was also confirmed by his former club Fortuna Düsseldorf[1][3][4]. Our thoughts are with Mill's family, friends, and all those who were touched by his life and career.
