Tragic crash in General Alvarado claims lives of three females, leaving another critically wounded
In a shocking and tragic turn of events, three women lost their lives and a man was severely injured after a head-on collision on Provincial Route 88, near La Ballenera area, in General Alvarado, on Thursday morning.
The incident happened around 9 am, as a Renault Clio, traveling from Necochea to Miramar (towards Mar del Plata), and a Citroën Berlingo, heading the opposite way, collided head-on on kilometer 58 of the route. Official sources confirmed to our website that two women in the Renault Clio and a woman accompanying the driver of the Citroën were immediate fatalities.
Authorities have identified the deceased as Gladys Malvina De La Torre, 67, who was driving the Renault Clio, and her companion, Miriam (with the surname yet to be officially confirmed). They were traveling towards Mar del Plata and were pronounced dead at the scene.
In the Citroën Berlingo, J. A. M., a 68-year-old man, was the driver, and his companion, Laura Evangelina Gómez, 45, also lost her life instantly. The man, J. A. M., sustained fractures in both hands and was urgently transferred to Miramar Hospital.
Emergency services, including Mechongué firefighters, Miramar ambulances, police personnel, and Scientific Police officers, quickly responded to the scene to assist the victims, carry out investigations, and re-establish traffic flow. The route remained partially blocked for several hours as the vehicles involved were removed.
The Renault Clio has been seized for a mechanical examination scheduled for May 13, and the autopsies of the three victims are planned for Friday, May 2, starting at noon. The cause of the collision is still under investigation by the Highway Police and the Mar del Plata Public Prosecutor's Office for Traffic Accidents.
On a related note, another head-on collision occurred on National Route 7 at the height of Tratayén, Neuquén province, leaving two people dead and another critically injured.
