NYPD Officer Didarul Islam Killed in Shooting Incident in Manhattan
On Monday, July 29, 2025, a tragic shooting incident took place in the heart of Manhattan, claiming the life of Officer Didarul Islam, a four-year veteran of the NYPD.
Officer Islam, 36 years old, was an immigrant from Bangladesh and a member of the NYPD, assigned to the Bronx precinct. At the time of the incident, he was working a private security detail. The shooting occurred in the lobby of the Midtown Manhattan office building at 345 Park Avenue.
The gunman, whose identity has not been disclosed, shot Officer Islam before turning the gun on himself, taking his own life. The incident also claimed the lives of three other individuals, and a fifth person is currently in critical condition.
Commissioner Jessica Tisch described Officer Islam as having made the ultimate sacrifice and dying a hero. Mayor Eric Adams and other officials honoured his bravery and service during the tragic event.
