Tragedy in Turkey: Earthquake leaves one child dead and 69 individuals injured
Tonight's Shake-Up in Turkey:
Last night, a earthquake hit the south of Turkey, as per our website, citing RIA Novosti. A 14-year-old girl sadly lost her life due to a panic attack caused by the quake, with the epicenter situated at a depth of 67 kilometers near the Turkish resort of Marmaris.
The Turkish Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the tremors were felt in the province of Muğla, among others, but no serious damage was reported initially. However, there were injuries. Sadi Guven, the interior minister, declared, "Sixty-nine people were injured after jumping from heights due to fear, with 46 still in hospitals."
It's significant to recall that Turkey underwent a powerful earthquake in April this year, in the Silivri district of Istanbul. The media reported widespread panic, power outages, walls shaking, and swaying chandeliers. The magnitude of the earthquake was 6.2.
This latest earthquake was broadcast live on a Turkish TV channel, with social media users also sharing footage of the incident in Istanbul. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed support for Turkish citizens in the aftermath, while Numan Kurtulmuş, the speaker of the Turkish parliament, emphasized earthquake preparedness in the country.
The Kazakh Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported no requests for help from Kazakh citizens in Turkey. Nevertheless, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed support for Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. There were also reports of a Uzbekistani citizen dying due to extreme fear caused by the earthquake.
Turkey has been hit by a series of significant earthquakes in recent months, reflecting the ongoing seismic activity due to its location on the boundary of major tectonic plates (note: Turkey typically experiences at least one earthquake of magnitude 5 or higher annually, underscoring the nation's vulnerability). The latest earthquake had a magnitude of 5.8, causing minor structural damage and multiple injuries.
