Traffic Jam on Motorway 3, Junction Ratingen-East - Truck Accident Leads to Driver's Serious Injuries (Report from Motorway Police)
In a tragic incident on the A3 towards Oberhausen, a collision involving a 44-year-old woman from Mettmann, an Opel, a 7.5-ton truck, and a tractor-trailer has left the woman seriously injured and the truck driver with life-threatening injuries.
The incident occurred at the Ratingen-Ost interchange on the A3. According to initial reports, a 56-year-old professional truck driver, whose origin is yet to be specified, drove into the Opel of the 44-year-old woman. The impact sent the Opel spinning to the left.
The truck then collided with a tractor-trailer that was originally in front of the Opel. The tractor-trailer driver, a 61-year-old man from Leverkusen, sustained no injuries.
The collision caused significant disruption, with the highway being fully closed in the direction of Oberhausen for approximately one hour.
The 44-year-old woman and the 56-year-old truck driver were both taken to hospitals for treatment. The woman's injuries are described as serious, while the truck driver's injuries are life-threatening.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver may have been under the influence of medication at the time of the collision. A blood sample was taken as part of the investigation.
The local criminal investigation department or traffic police unit in the jurisdiction where the incident occurred will be responsible for further investigations regarding the suspicion of medication intake by the truck driver.
