Traffic Guidelines for Independence Day 2025 in Delhi-NCR: Comprehensive List of Closed Roads, Detours, and Alternative Routes
Tomorrow, August 15, 2025, marks the 79th Independence Day of India, and the celebrations in Delhi NCR promise to be grand. However, to ensure security and smooth conduct during the event, several traffic restrictions and road closures will be in place.
Road Closures
The following roads will be closed from 4:00 am to 10:00 am:
- Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail Chowk
- Lothian Road from GPO to Chatta Rail Chowk
- S.P. Mukherjee Marg from H.C. Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk
- Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort
- Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg
- Esplanade Road and its link road to Netaji Subhash Marg
- Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT Kashmere Gate
- Outer Ring Road from ISBT Kashmere Gate to Salimgarh Bypass
These closures are intended to restrict general traffic access near the Red Fort. Only vehicles with authorized passes or labels for Independence Day will be permitted in the restricted zone.
Additional Advisories and Restrictions
- Goods vehicles will be prohibited from midnight to 11:00 am on August 15.
- Local buses will be diverted from the affected routes.
- Parking will be banned near major roads around the celebration areas.
- Traffic diversions will affect routes from ISBT Kashmere Gate, Salimgarh Bypass, and Vikas Marg.
- Commuters are advised to avoid roads near major venues like Red Fort, India Gate, and the C-Hexagon area, and to use alternate routes such as Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, and others for north-south connectivity.
Important Notes
- Flying sub-conventional aerial devices like drones etc. are prohibited.
- Diversions will be in effect for buses coming from ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Mori Gate, Sarai Kale Khan, and Anand Vihar. Passengers are advised to approach via alternative routes through the Ring Road.
- Traffic around Old Delhi Railway Station (Chandni Chowk side) and New Delhi Railway Station (Ajmeri Gate side) will be restricted.
- Buses from South Delhi, East Delhi, and Ghaziabad will terminate at ISBT Sarai Kale Khan or Bhairon Road.

Due to heavy rain, Delhi NCR is experiencing torrential rain. Commuters are advised to exercise caution while travelling.
Public Notice
Those attending the Independence Day celebrations are advised not to bring cameras, binoculars, remote control car keys, umbrellas, handbags, briefcases, transistors, cigarette lighters, tiffin boxes, water bottles, and lunch boxes.
Metro Services
The Delhi Metro will be operating since 4 AM at 30-minute intervals till 6 AM. Normal routine will resume on the Delhi Metro after 6 AM.

The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, will hoist the flag and deliver a speech at the Red Fort.
