Traffic Alert: Road Closures on Rhine and Weil at Basel-Dreiland

On Sunday, September 21, 2025, the city of Rheinfelden will be hosting the SlowUp Basel-Dreiland, a car-free experience day. This event, which lasts for 8 to 18 hours, will impact several areas around Zollstraße, Hauptstraße, and the Dreiländerbrücke in Weil am Rhein, as well as parts of the city centre in Rheinfelden.

The SlowUp route does not have a fixed starting or ending point, but it passes through the cities of Basel (Switzerland), Huningue and Saint-Louis (France), and includes crossing the Rhine Bridge connecting these areas. Lörrach (Germany) is not on the 2025 route, but the event features six crossings of the Rhine and covers three countries around the Basel tri-border region.

The route is reserved for bicycles, inline skates, and pedestrians, making it a great opportunity for residents and visitors to enjoy the city in a more environmentally friendly and active way.

Extensive road closures will occur in the city centre during the event, and other detours will be signposted. In the Herten district, the B34 will be affected, along with Augster Straße, Eigenstraße, Rheinfelder Straße, and Hertener Strässle. Other streets in the city centre that will be affected include Eichbergstraße, Werderstraße, Nollinger Straße, Basler Straße, and Rheinbrückestraße.

One significant change will be the regulation of the Mouscron-Allee at the intersection of Eichbergstraße/Werderstraße and the crossing of Augster Straße in Bahnhofstraße. The route will also pass through the Friedlingen district in Weil am Rhein.
