Julia Ruhs, a renowned moderator, has expressed her disappointment and shock after the North German Broadcasting (NDR) decided not to use her in its format 'Clear.' According to a statement made to the German Press Agency, Ruhs' team believes they have won back a lost target group with the format 'Clear,' which aims to address controversial issues in society and present different perspectives on them.

The decision by NDR to exclude Ruhs from the show comes after three pilot episodes aired between April and July in 2025, in cooperation between NDR and Bavarian Broadcasting (BR). The inaugural episode, which focused on migration, caused a stir, with reports of violence in connection with immigration.

Ruhs had reported on violence in connection with immigration during the first episode, a move that received both support and criticism. Some people applauded her efforts to address difficult topics, while others, such as Jan Boehmermann and Anja Reschke, publicly criticized individual contents of the show.

Despite being excluded from the NDR's format 'Clear,' Ruhs remains part of the moderation team for the episodes produced by the Bavarian Broadcasting (BR). The NDR, however, has not given a reason for the decision to exclude Ruhs from the show. It is still undecided who will present the episodes of the NDR's format 'Clear' moving forward.

If the NDR continues with the format 'Clear,' the editorial team, including the chief, will be different. Ruhs and her team believe the decision to exclude them is incomprehensible and criticized it, stating that it damages the reputation of public broadcasting.

Despite the setback, Ruhs' team has received support from people who had lost trust in public broadcasting, believing that they have won back a lost target group with the format 'Clear.' Further episodes of the show are planned for 2026, and it remains to be seen who will lead the discussions on controversial topics.
