Trade unions call another warning strike

trade unions in Saxony-Anhalt are once again threatening to strike before wage negotiations with the federal states. Verdi, the union representing state employees, has called for all employees to participate in the strikes, which will impact various institutions and organizations in the state, including Martin Luther University Halle, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, and various authorities, companies, and offices within the state administration. The Education and Science Union has also joined in the call for a strike at Halle's Martin Luther University.

According to Simona König, Verdi district manager for Saxony-Anhalt South, state employees' work is more demanding than ever, and their pay should stay competitive with federal and local government wages. The unions are hoping for an offer of appreciation from the collective bargaining community during the upcoming negotiations scheduled for December 7th.

The unions are demanding a 10.5% wage increase and at least €500, affecting around 2.5 million employees nationwide. While negotiations are underway for these increases, pay progress in Saxony-Anhalt remains stagnant, as per the Martin Luther University Halle's faculty and staff, who are backed by collective bargaining representatives from other trade unions in the area.

The Martin Luther University Halle and Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg are not the only institutions affected by the warning strikes. Various authorities, companies, and offices within the state administration are also included in these strikes.
