Track worker critically injured after train collision at German station

A 21-year-old track worker was seriously injured after being struck by a train at Frechen-Königsdorf station early on Thursday. The accident happened when the man was in a restricted area of the platform as a regional express service from Cologne entered the station.

The incident took place in the early hours at Königsdorf station. The worker was in a hazardous section of the platform when the train arrived. Emergency services responded quickly, but the man suffered severe injuries.

Following the collision, the railway line was shut down for roughly two hours. Seven trains faced combined delays of about an hour and a half while the area was secured. Authorities are still examining the exact circumstances of the accident.

The injured worker remains under medical care. Investigations continue to determine how he came to be in the dangerous zone. The disruption has since been cleared, but services were affected during the closure.
