Toys R Us is back

Gets ready to dominate the toy section, y'all! 🎈

Toys R Us is making a comeback, baby! Two companies are teaming up to sell toys in Macy's stores starting next year, with plans to open "Toys R Us Store-in-Store" in over 400 Macy's locations. This ain't their first rodeo, either – it's the second attempt in three years to rescue this legendary toy retailer.

WHP Global, a New York-based brand management firm, bought the once-famous toy store back in March 2021. Their game plan? Build a global network and digital platform for Toys R Us, aiming to expand its presence and bring more joy to kids (and their parents) worldwide.

Now, Macy's can expand their toy department sales and give Target and Walmart a run for their money. And according to Macy's Chief Marketing Officer, Nata Dvir, "Toys R Us is a recognized worldwide leader in children's toys, and this partnership allows Macy's to significantly expand its presence in this category and create more opportunities for our customers."

So, what happened to the original Toys R Us? Well, in 2018, truckloads of toys were sold in a liquidation deal, and Tru Kids Inc. became the new owners. They had plans to open independent stores in US malls but closed 'em down earlier due to Covid-19.

But Store-in-Store concepts are all the rage, and retail giants like Target and Nordstrom are hopping on the bandwagon. Target's opening mini-Apple Stores, Ulta-Kosmetikläden, and Kohl's is collaborating with Sephora in their stores.
