Toyota Boss Sees Taiwan's Motorsport Potential, Eyes Global Collaboration

Toyota Motor Corp chairman Akio Toyoda has praised Taiwan's potential in developing its own motorsport culture. His remarks came after observing Taiwanese fans' enthusiasm during the Toyota Gazoo Racing Corolla Cup in Taichung.

The Corolla Cup, which concluded its third and final round at the Lihpao Racing Park in August, consisted of three rounds held in May, July, and August. Twelve non-professional drivers took part in the one-spec race organized by Hotai Motor Co, Toyota's distributor in Taiwan.

Chairman Toyoda believes Taiwan could explore endurance races and collaborate with top Japanese teams like Toyota GAZOO Racing to compete globally. He suggests this could happen through international competitions, with social support, better infrastructure, and grassroots programs crucial for sustaining a racing culture. Toyoda also highlighted the benefits of racetrack performance data for carmakers in designing better-performing vehicles.
