Unfiltered Chat with Queer Indie-Rock Star Juno Lee

Hailing from the heart of Berlin, singer-songwriter Juno Lee's unique brand of queer indie-rock is a captivating blend of raw honesty, infectious tunes, and potent messages. Laundry Days, her 2024 debut EP, effortlessly glides from anthems like 'Dump Him' to heartfelt ballads like 'I'm Fine, Thank You'. With a swiftly growing fanbase in her hometown, and a recent support slot with Hinds in a sold-out Paris show, Juno's talent is starting to draw international attention.

"I dream of a world where being a FLINTA* band isn't treated as exceptional," she shares passionately.

The Birth of a Movement

Juno's musical journey began in 2022, a decision born out of an unwavering love for music rather than a calculated career move. "It wasn't a grand plan; it was just me and the songs I was pouring my heart into," she confesses. And as fragile as that beginning might seem, it evolved seamlessly and organically when she met her bandmates.

The Soundtrack of Her Soul

Describing her music as a melding of Barbie with riot grrl, Juno draws inspiration from the likes of Julia Jacklin and the legendary Kate Nash. "Seeing Kate Nash live during her 'Girl Talk' era was a transformative experience. I remember thinking, 'That's who I want to be,'" she recalls.

Topics Close to Her Heart

From queerness to feminism, mental health, and challenging the status quo, Juno's EP offers an intimate peek into her thoughts and experiences. "I want my music to be a reflection of who I am and a conduit for change," she declares.

Berlin's music scene, while inspiring, is also riddled with mediocrity. "It's 2025. Why are six-member boy bands still a thing?" Juno questions, her voice laced with frustration. "We have so many talented FLINTA and BIPOC musicians here. I believe we need to move past a point where being a FLINTA band feels exceptional."

Berlin's Favorite Haunts

When asked about her favorite venues, SchwuZ, Schokoladen, and Tennis Bar top her list. "Each of these places has a special energy that I can't fully put into words," she admits.

Unforgettable Moments

Opening for Hinds in Paris was a career highlight that left a lasting impact. "I didn't know what to expect, but the crowd responded with warmth and enthusiasm. It was truly magical," she reminisces. Another unforgettable moment was her first headline show in Berlin, celebrating the release of her debut EP in November 2024. "The atmosphere was electric, and having my family and friends there made it all the more special," she beams.

Collaborative Dreams

Juno's artist wishlist includes Meagre Martin, Güner Kunier, Andreya Casablanca, Aka Kelzz, and Albertine Sarges. "Each of these artists brings something unique and valuable to the Berlin music scene, and I would be honored to share a stage with them," she reveals.

The Road Ahead

With her debut album and a potential second EP on the horizon, Juno is eager to continue her creative journey. "I want to keep growing, evolving, and pushing boundaries," she declares.
