Town selects standout bell melodies for performance
In the heart of Offenbach, Germany, a musical landmark has been a daily delight for locals and visitors since 1985. The carillon, situated above the Apotheke zum Löwen, has been playing well-known melodies at specific times of the day - 11, 12, 17, and 18 o'clock. However, the Apotheke director, Franziska Hoefer, believes that the current carillon music does not accurately represent Offenbach.
To give the carillon a fresh twist, a new project called "Glock 'n bach" has been launched. This initiative aims to offer a new sound experience for Offenbach residents, and the public is invited to help decide which six new songs make it into the carillon playlist.
A jury has chosen 20 final song titles for the carillon, and voting is now open. Each person can cast up to three votes, and the polls close on August 23rd, 2025. The new carillon playlist is set to start on September 20th, 2025, coinciding with the 255th anniversary of Apotheke zum Löwen.
The new carillon playlist includes a mix of classic and exotic tunes. Among the options are songs like "Greek Wine", "Roller" by Apache 207, and "Lambada". These song choices reflect the diverse and vibrant culture of Offenbach.
Over 400 song suggestions were submitted during the nomination phase from July 16th to 30th. While the specific songs selected for the new playlist have not been publicly revealed, the public voting process offers an opportunity for the community to shape the musical landscape of their city.
Six classic songs will remain in the carillon's playlist, and six new ones will be added. Franziska Hoefer, the Apotheke director, acknowledges that not everyone may recognise the classic carillon songs, but she is hopeful that the new playlist will resonate with a wider audience.
Whether you're a long-time resident or a newcomer to Offenbach, this is your chance to help decide the tunes that will fill the city's air daily. To cast your vote, follow the provided link and make your voice heard in shaping the musical future of Offenbach.
