Town of St. Ingbert lowers flags in mourning for the funeral of honorary resident Albrecht Herold

In the picturesque town of St. Ingbert, Germany, the community is coming together to honour the life of Albrecht Herold, a respected figure in local and regional politics who passed away at the age of 95 in July 2025.

A prominent figure in shaping the political and social life in Saarland and his hometown St. Ingbert, Albrecht Herold served as the president of the Saarland state parliament and was a trade unionist.

The town will pay tribute to Albrecht Herold's life's work through a public memorial event and tribute, to be held at the town hall on July 24, 2025. Deputy Mayor Markus Schmitt will represent the town at the event.

The memorial event will be preceded by a funeral service at the Waldfriedhof St. Ingbert, where Albrecht Herold was a resident. The funeral is scheduled for the same day, at 11:00 AM.

Albrecht Herold's contributions to St. Ingbert extend beyond politics, as he was also a founder of the housing cooperative on the Alte Schmelz in his hometown.

Mayor Dr. Ulli Meyer described Albrecht Herold as a great social democrat, a great trade unionist, and a great politician. In honour of his life's work, the town hall in St. Ingbert will fly flags at half-mast on the day of the memorial event and funeral.
