Get ready, folks! Neustadt on the Wine Road is gearing up for a new leadership change this coming Sunday. Current mayor, Marc Weigel, is tossing his hat back in the ring. Born in Neustadt in 1978, Weigel, a member of the Free Voters Group (FWG), has held the office since January 1, 2018.

But Weigel isn't alone in the race. Independent candidate Steffi Karbach is giving him a run for his money. Born in Ludwigshafen in 1984 and raised in Neustadt-Hambach, Karbach is a digital strategy consultant for small and sustainable businesses.

Approximately 42,000 residents will cast their votes come Sunday. The anticipated results should be unveiled shortly thereafter. If no candidate snags the absolute majority in the initial round, a second round of voting will take place on June 29.
