In the World Athletics Championships held in Tokyo, German javelin thrower Julian Weber put up a valiant effort but ultimately came up short in his quest for a medal. Weber, coached by Burkard Looks since 2020 at the federal training center in Potsdam, struggled with his throws from the start of the competition.

Despite the challenging conditions in Tokyo, other German athletes fared better. Caroline Joyeux, a triple jumper, made her World Championship final debut, finishing in tenth place. Imke Onnen, another high jumper, secured her spot in the final, while Christina Honsel, another high jumper, qualified for the final in Tokyo.

Weber, however, was unable to replicate the success he enjoyed at the European Championships in Munich three years ago. Despite qualifying for the final with a jump of 87.21 meters, he failed to win a medal. In the final, he fell short of even his qualification distance, which would have secured him bronze (86.67 meters).

Weber's coach, Burkhard Looks, was critical of Weber's technique, stating that he was only using his arms and not his legs. Looks advised Weber to relax and focus on himself, but his words did not seem to help.

The competition was won by Keshorn Walcott from Trinidad and Tobago, who threw the javelin to a distance of 88.16 meters. Anderson Peters from Grenada finished second, while Curtis Thompson from the USA finished third.

Weber's performance in Tokyo was somewhat hindered by a recent infection, which may have affected his performance. Despite this setback, Weber demonstrated his potential and will undoubtedly be a force to reckon with in future competitions.
