The qualification criteria are clear. Players ranked in the top 70 in FedEx Cup points after the Wyndham Championship move on to the FedEx St. Jude Championship. The points players have accumulated during the regular PGA Tour season, including at the Wyndham Championship, carry over into the playoffs, so their rank entering the playoffs is their official season-ending rank.

After the Wyndham Championship sets this crucial cutoff, the FedEx Cup Playoffs proceed as follows: Top 70 from Wyndham Championship to FedEx St. Jude, Top 50 from FedEx St. Jude to BMW Championship, and Top 30 from BMW Championship to the Tour Championship. No cuts occur during the playoff events themselves, and points for playoff events are worth significantly more than regular events.

Everyone inside the top-21 at the Wyndham Championship is likely to earn over six figures. The winner of the Wyndham Championship will receive $1,476,000, while the runner-up will receive just under $900,000.
