Rewritten Article:

In the wee hours of April 30th, a harrowing accident unfolded on Highway 344 near the Krasaebon intersection in Klaeng district, Rayong. A collision involving a Toyota Fortuner SUV and an 18-wheel sand truck left three unfortunate souls dead and one badly injured.

The gruesome crash, reported around 1:30 AM according to Pol Lt Pongphon Chantra, deputy investigation inspector, took place on the Ban Bueng-Klaeng stretch towards downtown Klaeng.

First responders arrived at the horrifying scene to find an overturned 18-wheeler loaded with sand and a severely damaged Fortuner. The victims groaned in agony from within the Fortuner. A crane was employed to lift the truck off the wreckage, and rescuers utilized cutting equipment and levers to free the trapped parties.

Tragically, three passengers (aged 39, 40, and 49) succumbed to their injuries at the scene, while the driver, a 38-year-old Chinese national, survived but was severely injured. He was transported to Klaeng Hospital for treatment.

Based on investigations, it appears the Fortuner had stopped at a traffic light, made a right turn, and was struck by the oncoming sand truck, which dragged the vehicle approximately 50 meters before halting. The sand truck's driver fled the accident site.

Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the scene and promise to apprehend the fleeing driver. The Chinese embassy has been notified of the incident.
