Tourists Meet Tragic End, Another Suffers Severe Injury in Rayong Collision
In the early hours of April 30, 2025, a grim incident unfolded at Krasaebon intersection on Highway 344 in Rayong's Klaeng district. This unfortunate event claimed the lives of three Chinese tourists and left one severely injured.
The incident, which occurred around 1:30 AM, involved a head-on collision between a fully-loaded sand truck and a Toyota Fortuner. The accident took place as the Fortuner was making a right turn, while the oncoming truck was cruising along the Ban Bueng-Klaeng stretch to downtown Klaeng district.
When emergency services arrived, they found the overturned truck and a crushed Toyota Fortuner at the crash site. The driver of the Fortuner, a 38-year-old Chinese national, was still alive but in critical condition. Tragically, the three passengers in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene—all Chinese nationals aged 39, 40, and 49.
The trapped victims were extracted from the wreckage using a crane and various cutting tools. Unfortunately, by the time they were freed, it was too late to save the three passengers. The driver was transported to Klaeng Hospital for emergency treatment.
The driver of the sand truck, who allegedly fled the scene following the collision, is currently being pursued by Thai authorities. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to identify the suspect. The Chinese Embassy has been informed of the incident to provide assistance to the victims' families.
