Tourist From Saudi Arabia Perishes After Fall During Mountain Climb in Dhofar, Oman
In a tragic turn of events, two lives have been claimed in separate incidents involving mountain climbing accidents in Oman's Jabal Samhan, located in the Wilayat of Mirbat, Dhofar Governorate.
The first victim, Saudi poet Saud Bin Maadi Al Qahtani, also known as the "Poet of the South," met his untimely demise after slipping from a steep slope in Jabal Samhan. Despite the efforts of local Civil Defence and Ambulance teams, supported by residents, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after being taken to hospital. The Saudi Embassy in Muscat is currently coordinating with Omani authorities for his repatriation, and their condolences have been extended to his family.
In a second incident, a tourist also lost their life following a fall while mountain climbing. The exact cause of the tourist's death is not specified, but it is known that the injuries were fatal at the scene.
The Khareef season, Oman's monsoon season, transforms the region into a lush green landscape, attracting visitors from across the country and abroad. However, during this season, the mountain trails become slippery and dangerous, making hiking a potentially hazardous activity. The Omani authorities have urged caution for hikers, emphasizing the importance of adhering to preventive guidelines to avoid further accidents.
